About Us

The Mattagami Extensions Coordinating Committee (MECC) was established on May 14th, 2010 by the Ontario Minister of the Environment as a condition of approval of the Lower Mattagami River Project (LMRP) Provincial Environmental Assessment (EA). The LMRP is a hydro-electric development project involving 4 generating stations on the Lower Mattagami River. The LMRP is a partnership project between OPG and the Moose Cree First Nation – collectively referred to as ‘The Proponent’.

The MECC is an environmental oversight and advisory body which will oversee the Proponent’s compliance with the EA Approval Terms and Conditions.

The primary role of the MECC is to ensure the successful implementation of the Terms and Conditions of EA Approval and to act as a forum for the exchange and making available of information among Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and Taykwa Tagamou Nation (TTN), Moose Cree First Nation (MCFN) and MoCreebec Eeyoud Council – (the “First Nation Communities”) with respect to the LMRP.
