The Mattagami Extensions Coordinating Committee (MECC) was established on May 14th, 2010 by the Ontario Minister of the Environment as a condition of approval of the Lower Mattagami River Project (LMRP) Provincial Environmental Assessment (EA). The LMRP is a hydro-electric development project involving 4 generating stations on the Lower Mattagami River. The Lower Mattagami River Project will add approximately 440 Megawatts of new peaking capacity to the Existing Assets and allow more effective use of available water at all four stations.

The MECC is here to oversee that this is completed in a way that maintains the quality of the environment in the area.
